To play in the ESL you must change those things or you recieve penalty points.:
gl_overbright "1" from 1 to 0 (in autoexec.cfg)
Also you must deactivate the high detail textures, to do this search in autoexec.cfg r_detailtextures "1" and change the value to 0.
